Happy Bobby Burns day.

This pic has nothing to do with my blog just thought it was rather funny.

Two posts today one that was written yesterday and posted early this morning and this one;
Yesterday a new addition to the Parker and Levac families was introduced to the world. Although the new born was a little stubborn and did not want to leave his comfort Cindy gave birth to a 7lb, 12ounce baby boy, Samuel Parker Levac. Both mommy and baby are happy and healthy and dad is as proud as can be. We look forward to our spending time with our newest nephew bringing up the total to five.

It is also Bobby burns day today, he inspired what is known as the Romantic movement and after his death became an important source of inspiration to the founders of both liberalism and socialism. His passion and love of his country, Scotland, and its people was an inspiration for Scotts at home and abroad.

He wrote many poems in English and Gaelic including Auld Lang Syne. He inspired many authors including J. D. Salinger who wrote The Catcher in the Rye, as well as John Steinbeck (Of Mice and Men).

After his death, in the late 1800s, his friends wanted to honor the man and decided that each year on the date of his death they would read his poetry, eat Haggis and of course enjoy an ale or two. Many years later, in memoriam, the date was changed to his birthday, January 25, and has been held ever since.
The true Burn’s suppers are filled with poems and starts the night off with The Selkirk Grace. It then includes ‘The address to the Haggis’ which Burns wrote The rest of the night is filled with of course pints the "water of life" (uisge beatha) – Scotch whisky, speeches and toasts, reading of the authors work, dancing and more drinking -ahhh you gotta love the Scotts.

We will have our own Burns Supper -not the haggis though, probably Angus beef and of course beer. But I have looked into some of the Burns suppers in Ottawa as some of the legions and churches -St. Andrews- are hosting their own parties.

It might be interesting to listen to some Burns writings while sipping on the ‘water of life’, but most likely the night will be filled with pints at the local pub making up stories of my own to my friends and then actually needing the water of life, H2O, the next morning to bring me back to life.

So this evening we will raise a pint in honor of the handsome little man Samuel Levac and say that we are very happy that we were their for his introduction. We will also raise a glass for Robert Burns of course.
Last thing; After 16+ hours, many coffees and milling around the hospital yesterday Tracy and I made our way home to make supper but before hand we stopped at the beer store. As we pulled in Tracy said -I swear it wasn't me you can ask her yourself- "You know he (our new nephew) has the same name as your favorite beer -Samuel Adams- if we have a boy maybe we can name him Adam." Now she was joking of course, but it got me thinking two cousins name Samuel and Adam...hmmm not a bad idea.

It's a day late, but if you're looking for another reason to raise a pint, yesterday was Australia Day!

Thanks BP. I am sure that one or two of the beers I had can be dedicated to Aussie day. Happy belated Aussie day pal.
