Doctors from Germany believe there is a connection between increased deaths from heart attack while Germany’s soccer squad played in the world cup or other important games. It seems that the soccer fans were getting so worked up they were dropping dead from the excitement and stress. These same doctors from Munich and England began to discuss the same possibilities with doctors in the US. The Mayo clinic decided that there is a potential for the same thing to happen to super bowl fans.
So what does the US do? They actual spark fear and rhetoric by printing articles with headlines like "Big games may be hazardous to your health". With the article’s underlining message stating that games like the super bowl "…may be a health hazard", especially for hardcore patriots’ and Giants’ fans.
Dr. Lori Mosca, director of preventive cardiology at New York-Presbyterian Hospital states that fans -especially with known heart conditions- should:
• Take medications as prescribed.
• Avoid tobacco smoke and fatty meals.
• Get plenty of sleep the night before.
• Don't over-exert yourself physically.
• If you drink alcohol, limit yourself to one drink for a woman and two for a man.
• Try "not to get too angry with the refs."
I can’t even go on any farther at this point this is just completely stupid. Look at points 3 and 4 especially and yes point 5 is going to happen on super sunday. This is not a physical event that needs preparation.
Maybe if the mayo clinic and all these really ‘smart’ doctors would take the money they are wasting on these reports and studies they could use it to create reports like;
"Sitting on the couch for hours on end could be hazardous"
"Watching many hours of sports and eating highly fatty foods could be harmful"
"New study states: if the farthest distance you walk is to your bathroom or fridge you might be endangering your health."
"Living a sedentary life can lead to an early and untimely death."

Hey here’s a crazy idea how about promoting healthy life styles consisting of proper eating habits and being active at least 3 times a week. That might avoid a person dieing from watching a football game or soccer match.
Mines bigger then yours at least that is what they are saying in Winnipeg. I really don’t think it will cross the minds of the families out for a cold sunny skate or the romantic night skates with fresh falling snow or the speed skater gliding down the canal for that matter, but it is true as of this weekend Ottawa will no longer have the longest skating rink in the world.
Yup the River Trail rink in Winnipeg is said to be 1.2km longer then the Ottawa canal. The organizers in Winnipeg are so confident about it they obtained a form from the Guinness Book of Records to prove it. So there you go hope that doesn’t ruin your skate this year or make your beaver tail a little less appealing. I personally file this story under: Who cares? I mean it’s Winnipeg they should at least have something that their known for.

My mom literally went blind for a few seconds during the Senators-Sabres game 7 OT game back in 1996 when Tugnutt was in net. She hasn't had a reoccurence of this "stress-blindness" yet, but, a part of me was still proud of her. Good times!
Wow she was obviously into that game.
Yeah, but as you point out, you have to be in Winnipeg... in the wintertime... to enjoy those extra 1.2Kms.
Let'em have their record, and let me know when it affects Winterlude attendance by even a dozen tourists.
