I didn’t want to be negative today but it is hard when nothing changes and those in power simply don’t fucking care. While I studied politics there was one message, amoung others, that rung through all the time. A Prof. once told us "To be a great politician you have to remove morality from all decisions that you make. Your goal is votes and funding do whatever it takes to get them." Now he did not follow or promote this as he was on the side of those guys willing to fight for the better of everyone and not just their party or themselves. But his fact holds true and this is why politicians DO NOT CARE! And is the other reason why there are so few stories about people like Charlie Wilson for example. The G8 summits are a prime example of ‘great politicians’ -under the aforementioned description- as they have always been under scrutiny for the G8’s apparent lack of progress making it seem merely an excuse for Annex-1 nation leaders to gather for some R&R and dine on exquisite food paid for by the consistently bent over tax payers.
As they gather to hold their talks there is always a key issue at the top of the agenda. This session is focused on the world’s food shortage with specific reference to Africa. These talks are held in some of the most lavish hotel and conference centers or 5 star restaurant. While they discuss this devastating trend they were treated to an eclectic lunch and dinner that when combined came up to 18 COURSE! What was on the menu? Only the best salmon, caviar, lamb and the like.
This was taken from this article
"Just two days ago, Gordon Brown was urging us all to stop wasting food and combat rising prices and a global shortage of provisions. But yesterday the Prime Minister and other world leaders sat down to an 18-course gastronomic extravaganza at a G8 summit in Japan, which is focusing on the food crisis."

What they should have been eating is rice and filthy water even though it would not be anywhere near what it is like for this mother life while she holds her child as he dies of starvation. But then again what do we expect from these leaders from some of the most affluent countries? Specifically here in North America of course, were we have such a gluttonous society that we actually have an OBESITY EPEDEMIC, that is simply deplorable.

I mean how can you expect the leaders to help Africa when there are children like this in North America. Hope your still love’in in a few years chubs as when you have diabetes and chronic heart conditions where will Ronald be? Don’t think there is a transplant kit in the happy meal just yet.
Bottom line I am not stating that I am perfect I can do better but I attempt to be an environmental steward as it is not hard to do. I try to donate to worthy causes. I am a member of Amnesty International. But with no help from those who lead us we are left to wonder what impact are we having really? I guess that is the answer itself. We do the best we can in our lives and we can be happy knowing that we did the very best to make change and help everyone and everything as a whole. We can not ignore it, it is all our problem, especially us in North America.
One who should be commended is LISA SMITH-BATCHEN. She is an ultrarunner who runes distances well over 300miles, 600 and now 800 to raise money for worthy causes. Her latest is to run 810 miles to raise awareness and funding for the food shortages in Africa. We need more people like Lisa and in our own individual ways we can.

Very powerful blog, loved it. I feel your frustration over this issue and the thought of these politicians and world hunger sickens me. I know that we (i.e.society) feel like our hands are tied on many issues, however we need to push on and try to make differences where we can be it little or big...Lisa is certainly an inspiring individual to this end.
Oh ya, love the heart transplant kit in the happy meal bit. Funny but sad.
Forts, well written and well said.
Thanks too the both of you.
